Horse Care Boarder Report- March 16, 2018

Ah, that earthy Spring smell is so good!
Here is just a quick update on boarder horses. 

Currently:
Herd horses: Rhyan, Tequila, Klu, Casey, Jackson and Jacques and horse, Prince.  Honey went home due to a small ankle cut that owner wants to heal up before riding her.
Barn horses: Willie

Horses are now on small square bales of hay (about 2 bales twice a day, occasionally up to 5 bales total a day).  Access to fresh, free choice water, trace mineral block and shelter. In AM, feed barn grain to all horses except Tequila, Jackson, and Willie. Prince is now on barn grain and feed with the rest of the herd at the once daily AM feeding. Barn grain is feed at the rate of 10 lbs, put in 5 feed bins, per day.  Barn grain is a mix of senior feed and a maintenance or all stock feed (about 50/50 ratio, hand mixed).

Barn horse (Willie) is out with the herd during the day.  He gets 1/3 bale or as much as he can clean up on a normal night in his stall with trace mineral block and water.  In PM, feed 1 scoop oats and one strip SmartPak, both supplied by owner.  His stall is cleaned about 6 times a week with more bedding added 2x to 3x per week. His cribbing collar is usually on 24/7, but is currently off 27/7 by owner's request to allow a scrape on the neck where the the collar would sit to heal.

Horse Care Boarder Report- Jan. 3-5, 2018

Winter means fuzzy horses!  Here are the updates for Jan. 3-5th, 2018. Horse weights: (may not be the most accurate, it was 6 F and my hands were freezing!) Jan. 3: Jackson....1081 lbs Tequila....1142 lbs Rhyan....1037 lbs Klu.........1156 lbs Jan. 4: Casey....980 lbs Jan. 5: Jacque....in photo: 925 lbs (inaccurate) (Jacque on Jan 7th: 872 lbs) Willie......1266 lbs Jan. 6: Prince .....photos only Currently: Herd horses: Rhyan, Tequila, Klu, Casey, Jackson and Jacques and new horse, Prince, arrived Sat. Jan. 6th, 2018 Barn horses: Willie Herd horses are feed two round bales with netting.  Access to fresh, free choice water, trace mineral block and shelter. In AM, feed barn grain to all horses except Tequila, Jackson, Willie and Prince. Notes While I am Gone to Africa

Hello, here are a few horse care updates and notices related to my absences. -I will be gone Nov. 10th through Dec. 21st, 2017 -Please read over the horse care report posted on this blog -Please read over the contact numbers below and correct if needed. -For herd horses we plan to provide round bales with hay nets over them which means: -NO SHOES on horses while we feed round bales because of the hay nets and the risk of getting their feet caught in it. -Herd horses will not be grained while I am gone -Willie will have his collar on 24/7, the rest is the same as before except for round bales with others -NO RIDING ON THE PUBLIC ROADS OR TRAILS DURING DEER GUN SEASON! Nov. 17th (day before season because of crazy people) to Nov. 26th, 2017.  Just don't do it.  It is not worth it. -Board paid while I am gone will be deposited and given a receipt after I return.
